ECO-UNESCO is Ireland's national environmental organisation for young people specialising
in Environmental Education. The organisation aims to raise environmental awareness, promote the protection
and conservation of the environment and promote the personal development of young people. The Young
Environmentalist Awards, which are funded by NIEA, have been set up to encourage young people to become
environmentally aware and actively promote environmental conservation. The Awards honour the work of
young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who protect, conserve and enhance our environment through
local environmental projects. For further information on how to enter download the Young
Environmentalist Awards Manual ( pdf - 3.5 MB ).![]()
ECO-SCHOOLS, also funded by NIEA, provides a simple framework that involves not only the school community but the wider local community. By following the programme your school will become a more stimulating place in which to learn while lessening the impact of the school on the environment and will assist the school to become more sustainable.
