PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW
BEFORE PROCEEDING TO USE THE SEARCH FACILITY.
-
The Buildings Database contains records of buildings which have been
considered to be of sufficient architectural or historic interest to merit a
survey by EHS. The majority of this information relates to listed buildings
however information on buildings which do not quite meet this standard, or have
been demolished or removed from the list are also included.
-
Please note that if a building is designated as ‘record only’ it is not listed.
-
The Second Survey of Buildings of Architectural and Historic Interest has recorded
103 out of Northern Ireland’s 526 electoral wards since 1997. Detailed information
is provided on buildings and structures in these areas while basic information is
provided for the rest of Northern Ireland. Should you want to find out more about
listed buildings in areas which have not yet been covered by the survey, information
in paper form can be accessed at the Monuments and Buildings Record in
Waterman House - the EHS: Built Heritage Headquarters building in Hill Street
in Belfast.
-
It should be noted that the majority of the structures included in this database are
privately owned and are therefore not open to the public. Inclusion on the database
does not give automatic right of access whatsoever to a property or its surrounding
land.
-
To protect owner privacy and security, information EHS holds on the interior of
buildings is not accessible. A public interest test under the Freedom of Information
Act (2000) will be applied to any request to view this information. Owners will be
notified should such a request be received. For similar reasons full access to images
held on the database has been restricted. This relates in particular to properties
which are not easily visible from a public road.
-
The information contained on these records is date specific and relates to the date
of survey or an updated record prior to listing. The evaluation of architectural
and historic interest relates to this information and should be regarded as the view
of the Department. A monitoring section has been included at the end of the record
to note major changes which may have taken place to the building since its survey
and evaluation. This section is aspirational and the published record should not be
taken to be anything more than a description at the times noted.
-
The Department has tried to ensure that information contained in the record is accurate
however it is provided on an ‘as is’ basis. without any representation or endorsement
made and without warranty of any kind whether express or implied, including but not
limited to the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular
purpose, non-infringement, compatibility, security and accuracy.

-
If you are aware of historical or other information which you feel is not accurate
or has been misinterpreted, or if you possess extra information which might contribute
to EHS’s understanding of a structure’s architectural or historical value we would
be pleased to hear from you. Our aim is to have a database which is both clear and
is as accurate as it can possibly be.
